Eminent Scholar in Finance, University of Florida

Professor Murillo Campello is an internationally recognized scholar of Financial Economics, Campello’s papers have been cited by prominent policy authorities, such as the Federal Reserve chairman, mentioned in Congressional hearings, described in the “Economic Report of the President,” and used to advise the U.S. Supreme Court. His work on the Financial Crisis and Covid-19, in particular, has been widely featured in the financial press (Financial Times, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal), books, and academic outlets.

Professor Campello is an Eminent Scholar in Finance at the University of Florida. He is the Managing Editor of The Journal of Financial Intermediation. He is also a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Director of Research at the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge. He earned his PhD in Finance from the University of Illinois, an MS in Business Administration from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and a BS in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

Adam is the Chief Responsible Investment Officer at the Church of England Pensions Board as well as Co-Director of the Investment Team.

In addition Adam has a number of roles including serving at the Special Envoy for Peacebuilding for the Archbishop of Cape Town, Co-Chair of the Global Centre for Peacebuilding and Business, Founder and Chair of the Global Investor Commission on Mining 2030, and is the Principles for Responsible Investment’s investor representative on the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Panel on Critical Transition Minerals.

Further, in developing the Pensions Board approach to climate change, he founded the $68 trillion Transition Pathway Initiative at the London School of Economics, where publicly listed companies and sovereign debt issuers are assessed on their governance of climate risk and alignment to the Goals of the Paris Agreement.

Adam established and led the Paris Aligned Investing Initiative of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) that produced the first global Net Zero Investment Framework for pension funds and investment managers.

As Chair of the IIGCC Corporate Programme Adam led the development of the first Net Zero Standard for the Oil and Gas sector and the Diversified mining sector. In 2022 the Archbishop of Canterbury awarded Adam the Canterbury Cross for his work on climate change and for establishing the Transition Pathway Initiative.
